Four Eagles Win End of Year Awards
The following article appeared Sunday, March 2 in the Antelope Valley Press:
PORTLAND Ore. - In a season that was all West Coast Baptist College nearly all the time, so too were the end of year Pacific Christian Athletic Conference top honors. Announced to the public Saturday evening after the championship game, the Eagles took home the two most prestigious awards to go along two other standout awards.
At the top of the pedestal sits WCBC coach Curt Beeson with his second Coach of the Year honor in the team's seven-year existence. Beeson led his Eagles back from a rocky 0-8 record to eventually go on to win 10 of their final 13 games and finish 7-1 in conference, claiming their first PCAC regular season championship since 04-05.
To no surprise senior guard Jon Sisson was named the PCAC Most Valuable Player after averaging 15 points and four assists in the Eagles season campaign.
This honor marks the third straight PCAC end of the year honor that Sisson has received beginning as a sophomore.
"With Jon it is just hard work," Beeson said. "When you are 5-foot-7 and have gotten to where he is, it's cause he has worked hard to get there.
"Jon deserved it and I'm glad to see it."
Also in the mix for the Eagles was forward Tommy Thorogood and center Brendan Swan.
Thorogood was named First-Team All-Conference while Swan was Honorable Mention. The two have been important to WCBC's consistency toward the end of the season with Swan using his 6-foot-10 frame to produce on both ends of the court, and Thorogood regularly putting up points for the Eagles as the second leading scorer behind Sisson.
